Who it’s for
Kids six and up who want to train. Clayton doesn’t take kids who are forced to come, because one unhappy kid drags the whole class down. Bring yours to a free class and let them decide.
- Brand new kids No experience needed. They’ll learn to fall, move and hold a position before anything fancy.
- Kids who’ve trained before They join the same class and get pushed at their level.
- Kids who want medals The travel team is its own program, and every kid on it started in this class.
- Parents Expect a tired, proud kid. The discipline comes from inside them, not from push-ups as punishment.
How a kids class runs
First
Movement
Balance, falling safely, and moving a body that keeps changing size.
Then
Technique
One position at a time, taught in order.
Then
Drill it
Reps with a partner while a coach watches and corrects.
Last
Roll
Live rounds against kids who are trying just as hard.

Kids class
The main program. Belts and stripes track real progress, so kids can see themselves getting better.

Travel team
For the kids who want tournaments. More mat time, a team, and a coach in their corner.
Before work or after it
Morning classes run three days a week. Clayton says the morning crowd never shows up at night, and the night crowd never shows up in the morning.

Questions parents ask
Something we didn’t cover? Call (757) 704-5983 and a coach will answer it.
Six and up. Teens train with the adults.
A T-shirt and athletic shorts or leggings, no zippers or pockets, no jewelry. A gi can wait until they know they like it.
That’s not what we sell. Clayton teaches kids who want to learn, and the discipline they build comes from inside them. If your kid has to be dragged to class, it’s probably not the right fit yet.
Every kid starts in the regular kids class. When a coach thinks they’re ready and want it, we’ll talk with you about the schedule, the travel and the cost.
