Who it’s for
Kids who already train in the regular kids class and want to compete. Nobody signs up for the team cold. Kids start in the regular program, and a coach tells you when they’re ready.
- Practice Monday through Thursday, 4:00 to 5:00 PM. Team members are expected at all four.
- Tournaments At least six a year. Competing is the whole point of the team.
- Travel Events up and down the East Coast and out West, with Clayton in the corner.
- Cost Ask us. We’ll walk through the time, the travel and the money before anyone commits.
How the team trains
First
Fundamentals
The same curriculum as the kids class, run at a faster pace.
Then
Situations
Rounds that start from the positions where matches get won and lost.
Then
Drill it
More reps, more feedback, and less standing around.
Last
Compete
Tournaments, then back to the mat to fix whatever broke.

Medals
Kids bring home hardware. They bring home losses too, and those teach just as much.

The team
Kids and adults travel to the same events, so team days turn into a gym-wide thing.
Before work or after it
Morning classes run three days a week. Clayton says the morning crowd never shows up at night, and the night crowd never shows up in the morning.

Questions parents ask
Something we didn’t cover? Call (757) 704-5983 and a coach will answer it.
Six and up. Teens train with the adults.
A T-shirt and athletic shorts or leggings, no zippers or pockets, no jewelry. A gi can wait until they know they like it.
That’s not what we sell. Clayton teaches kids who want to learn, and the discipline they build comes from inside them. If your kid has to be dragged to class, it’s probably not the right fit yet.
Every kid starts in the regular kids class. When a coach thinks they’re ready and want it, we’ll talk with you about the schedule, the travel and the cost.
